Let Me Tell You A Story
When my children’s father was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 and passed away in 2019, I scoured old computer files and the internet to see if I could patch together a video for my children to watch and listen to their dad “in action”. Although there are pictures, the live videos and recordings are few and far between. Having his words recorded on audio or video directed towards them, telling stories and talking about what in life was most important to him, would be priceless now.
You Could Make A Recording, But Who Has Time?
When I was first in practice, I would tell my clients to record a message for their loved ones and put it in a safe place or simply write notes to their children letting them know how they felt about them.
But so few people ever actually did it.
We just get so caught up with the day to day of our lives that focusing in on leaving a legacy seems to take a back seat.
My own father passed away very unexpectedly in 2025 and, regretfully, I never asked him to record a legacy interview because I thought we had more time. We always think we have more time, don’t we? I did record a legacy interview with my grandmother years ago, and it is a video I will always treasure.
